The Heart of D.I.V.A.S.
Demonstrating Individual Values Amongst Sisters (D.I.V.A.S.) Mentoring Program, Inc.
is a not for profit organization established in 2009 to aid in the positive development of young ladies in the community. By way of partnerships with local school systems, colleges and universities, we provide group and one-on-one mentoring in an effort to help young ladies cope with the unique issues they face on a daily basis. Our mentors stand strong in our common goal and passion “To unite females by creating a sisterhood in which they will maintain personal goals and values, build a strong academic foundation and become further enlightened on the realities of life. "
The organization strives to reduce and eliminate further or potential involvement in abusive relationships, teen pregnancy and poverty. Through mentoring sessions and community service projects, D.I.V.A.S. helps students locate their gifts, activate their purpose & pay it forward to their community. All mentoring services are provided at minimum, or no cost to the mentees and are supported 100% by the fundraising efforts of D.I.V.A.S. board of trustees and members at-large.
Inspired by her own personal experiences as a teen, Felecia Avila-Frayall founded D.I.V.A.S. out of her passion to impact the lives of young ladies. As a student of Albany State University her goal was to bridge the gap between local schools and universities and help mentees confront significant barriers outside of the classroom by providing each one with a family of committed volunteers.
